Q Instructions How you would deal with employees’ dissatisfaction at increasing the diversity of your organization? For this in-class discussion, you will consider this situation: There are two candidates for an entry-level position at an investment bank. Both are Ivy League graduates, top of their class, and have equal amounts of experience in internships. In fact, other than their racial backgrounds, there is very little to distinguish between the two people. One is white, the other is black. Who would you hire and why? During class, you’ll read the Case Study: Negative Reactions to Affirmative Action document from this module’s resources. Then, in small groups, you will discuss the questions below. For discussion purposes, let’s assume your current workforce is comprised of mainly white males. You have sensed that there is significant employee dissatisfaction at your company’s attempt to diversity the workforce. • What specific steps might you as a manager take to deal with this apparent dissatisfaction? • Do you believe that companies should adopt Affirmative Action to increase its diversity? Are there alternatives to Affirmative Action that a company can use to increase diversity? • Do you think that Affirmative Action is discriminatory towards white males? If so, is it an acceptable means of increasing diversity? By Sunday at 11:59 PM CT, submit a one-page reflection that summarizes your takeaways from this discussion and the learning content about this topic from the module.

As an African American woman, I may be bias on this matter but here it goes. I believe diversity in the workplace is not only good for the sake of not looking bias, but it gives different approaches and ways of doing things that diversifies innovation. Having different age groups, ethnicities and years of experience all contributes to a diversified workplace. Every aspect is great for getting a well-rounded look on things in the company. If I, as a manager, was displeased with the lack of diversity there are a few things I would investigate. The first this is I would ensure that the recruiting process was diverse.
